GIRL SCOUT MUSEUM
The GS Museum of Tanasi Council has pictures of their collection on Art Museum Touring.com (http://www.artmuseumtouring.com). They have over 500 vintage uniforms which girls and troops can try on by appointment. They have uniforms and memorabilia from around the world.

We have a long family tradition with Girl Scouts. My wife was in GS and a GS leader, my daughter got her Gold Award and my mother was a camp counselor in the 30's. My aunt, Fay (Gunn) Ricketts, in 1929, was one of the first two Golden Eaglets from Mississippi. She made Girl Scouts her career working in the national office in NYC until she retired. We have a lot of her GS memorabilia including her sash and Golden Eaglet. We, also, have several photographs. We are trying to identify the people in the pictures, one from a 1929 national meeting in Slidell, LA, that National didn't even have. GS history should be preserved for future generations.

Art Museum Touring.com has a variety of museums including Art museums, history museums, palaeontological museum, and historic homes. The site is laid out in a coffee table art book fashion. It is a good educational resource tool. Girls can "page" through the site to see sample photos from the collections and exhibitions of the participating museums. The site is a family friendly site. Each museum's page is updated as they have new exhibitions.

We will be notifying you anytime the Knoxville GS museum sends us new pictures.
You can subscribe to receive email updates for all the participating museums, and our email newsletter.

***Since there is so much interest instead of sending out a newsletter, we are building Fay's Page: My Life in Girl Scouts into our website as a subsection of our Blog for everyone interested in scouting to see. We are building this page to honor my husband's Aunt Fay, born in 1909, who was one of the first two Golden Eaglets from Mississippi in 1929. She was leader of Troop #2 in Grenada, MS. This is the link path to Fay's Page: www.artmuseumtouring.com/Fay.html

We have put up the newspaper picture of the 1929 Girl Scout Convention in Slidell, LA. We know which is my aunt and have guessed at two others. It would be great if anyone else could identify others in the picuture. We will be adding more material periodically to this page as we have time. This is just a start. We will be putting up pictures of her badges and Golden Eaglet. If any of you have historic material especially photographs you want to share, email them to me, sherrie@artuseumtouring.com, and we will try to add them to this section.

TVA Web Site for Children − tvakids.com −
Focuses on Energy Efficiency

Teaching children about energy efficiency is now center stage on tvakids.com, TVA’s Web site for school children.

The interactive site features tips on conserving energy at home and school, as well as ways for families and communities to get involved. From tvakids.com, parents can take TVA’s online home-energy audit and receive a free conservation kit.

“It is important to encourage behavioral changes in energy use early in life, and we know kids can be a big influence on their parents,” says TVA President & Chief Executive Officer Tom Kilgore. “By using electricity more efficiently, our customers can help us make a difference in reducing our electricity consumption and in meeting our region’s energy needs as economically as possible.”

TVA met the highest demand for electricity ever during the winter season as cold winter temperatures increased power use across the region in January.

TVA and local power distributors are providing a free energy-efficiency kit to Tennessee Valley consumers who complete a do-it-yourself home-energy audit. The kits and the new tvakids.com site are part of TVA’s effort to help inform the public about energy efficiency while helping consumers save energy and save money on their electric bills.

Information on the do-it-yourself home audit is also available on tva.com and energyright.com.

The tvakids.com site features an educational game called “Power Bandit.” By playing different games to beat the energy bandit, students can learn about electricity generation, safety and efficiency.

Students and parents can also use tvakids.com for links to science-fair ideas and energy-conservation projects. Teachers can access curriculum materials and links to more information on science and energy.

Video “field trips” on the site provide a first-hand look at Buffalo Mountain Wind Farm near Oliver Springs, Tenn., and numerous solar generating sites across the Tennessee Valley.

The tvakids.com site will have additional updates and information added. All users may take an online survey and offer suggestions on how TVA can improve the site.
